Oromia:Umurii koloneefataa dheeresuuf tataafii godhama jiru.

The Reverend pleaded with Oromo political groups about the dire need for a shift in paradigm in the Oromo national movement. He said because tens of ethnic groups shared long-stretching borders with Oromia, an independent Oromia would be infeasible as that would lead to the demise of Ethiopia as we know it, hampering the security and economic development of future Oromia. Ethiopia: Aid money was spent on arms

A recent document released by the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has revealed that millions of dollars, allocated for victims of the Ethiopian famine of 1984-85, went into buying weapons for rebellions. However, Robert Gates - President Obama’s Secretary of Defense said the suggestion cannot be ruled out that the CIA not only knew about, but supported, the diversion of aid funds to the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF).
The document printed by CIAs Michael Burke’s in 1984, dated April 1985, and entitled: Ethiopia: Political and Security Impact of the Drought, concluded that: "Some funds that insurgent organizations are raising for relief operations, as a result of increased world publicity, are almost certainly being diverted for military purposes."...read more

Ethiopian tribesmen kill Kenya policeman at border

NAIROBI (Reuters) - A Kenyan police officer has been killed by members of an Ethiopian tribal militia after a clash along the two countries' common border, Kenyan media said on Saturday.
The private Kenya Television Network said the officer from the paramilitary General Service Unit was killed late on Friday after 500 militiamen, believed to be from the Merille tribe, attacked the unit's camp.
The report said the 500 gunmen were on the counter-attack after the Kenyan officers repulsed them away from the waters of Lake Turkana, on the Kenyan side, after a shoot-out that lasted four hours.
Five other Kenyan officers are missing after the attack, which is believed to involve Ethiopian Merille tribesmen, the station added.
The reported location of the clashes, Todonyang, is a village that has been abandoned since 1997, when its two ethnic communities, Merille and Turkana, fought and dispersed into Ethiopia and Kenya respectively.
Kenyan government spokesman Alfred Mutua declined to comment on the report, saying he had no details.
Kenya's long borders with Sudan, Ethiopia and politically unstable Somalia care a constant source of security concerns.

Ethiopia: ONLF forces captured Yucub town
Ogaden Online
Reports reaching us from Yucub town, Dolo province say that Ethiopian troops based there have fled their camps after they could not cope with constant nocturnal attacks by Ogaden National Liberation Front [ONLF] forces.
In response to the myriad troubles Woyanel troops have been visiting upon civilians, ONLF forces pounded the two camps housing Ethiopian soldiers and their puppet militiamen with heavy artillery guns every night, with the heaviest attack on the camps occurring on the night of 3 February. Our reporter in the area said Ethiopian troops were eventually forced to flee to Warder town after incurring massive personnel losses and destruction of the camps.

World Number one Tennis Player R.Federer reduced to tears on visit to Ethiopia

His opponent, Ethiopian teenager, Jirata Demksa, smiles and prays the Swiss is having an off day.
But Federer just pauses and, taking a deep breath, serves a blistering ace.
The 17-year-old, realizing he's beaten, simply shrugs.
"He's the best tennis player ever," he says. "I am just lucky we played ping-pong."
Jirata says he will never forget taking two points from Federer in an impromptu game of table tennis at a school the tennis ace funds in the poor country.
For Federer, this week's visit to Ethiopia was one that moved him to tears....read more

Oromo language conference in Finfinne
Obbo Debela Amante, a linguistics PhD student at the University of Oslo, is planning an academic conference on the Oromo language to take place in Addis Ababa later this year.
The Oromo language, spoken by about one third of Ethiopians as well as in parts of Kenya and Somalia, was introduced as formal language of instruction in Ethiopia in 1991. However, Mr. Amante notes that there is as of yet no standardised written form of the Oromo language and that Oromo researchers in Europe and North America are not well connected with researchers in Ethiopia. To remedy this he and his colleagues are planning an Oromo language conference to be organised in Addis Ababa in the second half of 2010. In the longer term, Debele Amante hopes to see an Oromo language academy established.
Mr. Amante encourages anyone interested in more information to contact him (click here for contact details).
