(SomaliNet) Fresh fighting has erupted in the Somalia capital Mogadishu on late Sunday between Ethiopian forces stationing at the former defense ministry building and heavily armed local militiamen.
Heavy gunfire and explosions could be heard over there as residents are very concern over the shelling.
The fighting started around 7:00 pm local time in south of Mogadishu with both sides exchanging artillery, mortar and rocket fires.
There is no immediate casualty on the latest battle.
The Ethiopian forces are reported to have clashed with gunmen presumably supporters of the ousted Islamists.
Residents told Somalinet that insurgent groups have attacked the base of the Ethiopian troops at former defense ministry.
After 15 minute gun battle, the situation now resumed calm.
The latest fighting came as extra Ethiopian troops are heading towards the Somalia capital Mogadishu to enforce the already existed forces who felt threat from the Islamists.
Ethiopian soldiers in the capital are frequently attacked by supporters of the ousted Islamic Courts Union since they helped the interim government took control of the capital late December 2006.
