Matters had looked very different for Dr. Nagassa Gidira the morning of November 3, 2006 when he received a phone call from the office of the prime minister Meles Zenawi. The voice on the phone said, " Dr. Nagasaan neber ibakootiin?. This he! said Dr. Nagaasaa wondering who might be calling him that early. Right after he startedcontempleting just that, he heared "ke xaqlay ministru biroo newu yixebiqu". then the prime minister's voice arrived to say " Nagasaa! Endemin-neh? Then Dr. Nagasaa said " Dehinaa? getayee.. Dehinaa!"
Then the prime minister said " Simaa Nagasaa! As you very well remember, just last may 2006 the Amharas almost bought out the democratic government for which all of us have worked hard. I am sure you must have been so surprised when the Qinijit purchased our nation's vote with the money they collected in Diaspora and we can not quietly watch them doing the same again in this upcoming election and therefor we need to do something about it soon".Bexam Xiru newu getayee! We should get together and talk about it. Good! Then I will let Minase coordinate this meeting with you and others whom we think are important said the prim minister.That early morning, Dr. Nagasa was eating his breakfast sitting in his government assisted new home reflecting on life and how it was so good. Even though he was not making a huge money from the collage where he is working at, Nagasaa always felt that he is the top man of Ethiopia. Now the prime minister called him directly, he felthe is becoming more important man.November 5th, 2006, 11am Finfinnee, Oromia.Minase only slept 2 hours that night. During the day time, he was in the meeting with the prime minister from there, he directly went to see the chief security head of the country to assess new intelligence information received from Eritrea, Kenya, Minnesota and Washington DC.Minase Walde Giworgise exited the Minilik Palace on the backside via the gate that allows access to the Mariam church located east of the palace. After he got into his car parked inside the church, he headed to Kasanchis east wards until he arrived at the ring road that will bring him back to the old airport secret office of the intelligence. Until he arrive at old airport Hizb Dehninet office, Minase maintained a speed at a little above the speed limit.For Minase, the Tigre led government of Ethiopia is a part of his life since almost 17 years ago he came to power and enjoyed his life following the prime Minster who have masterminded the theft of Oromia's resources by jailing tens of thousands and killing several thousand Oromians. Because it is he who will be to be blamed for all the atrocities committed in Oromia, if the Tigre government loses, the only choice he is left with is to work hard to maintain the Tigre power to his last breath and beyond.Minase was chosen by Meles Zenawi because he was born and raised in Oromia and understands the in and out of Oromia and the mind set of the Oromo nation. Language wise, he spoke with central Oromian accent that has been smoothed away by the central Oromians who migrated to Arsi region when forced to leave their land and property behind by the Amhara rule of Haile Silase era.It was exactly 8 am when Minase arrived at the department of internal security division where several hundred young university students were receiving a spying training. To enter the compound, Minase used a hand-operated scanner and yet three men originally from Tigri were sitting in a small room and looking out as they aimed their gun at the entrance gate. Though Minase can not see inside this small room because of the nature of the glasses that disallowed vision from the outside, only the three men were able to see out through this bullet proof glass window.This building was one of several safe house the TPLF built and owned around Finfinnee city. In these buildings, sensitive and short meetings are held. The building is decorated by cheaply framed pictures of Aksum and Adwa churches pictures hanged on walls.When he arrived in this spy training room located on west side of the building, he over heard Kiros (Wdei Gebru) saying to his trainees ... "you are the best intelligence gathering team I have ever seen in my life. You are the coolest young men and young ladies with cool nerve. You understood the importance of being cool and quit listeners. You new the names of those whom you were following and most importantly, you knew how to create dossier on each of the people you work on and that is simply great!. Please keep up the good job!".Wdi Gabru is well known for his ability to recruit other ethnic groups into the Tigre government intelligence services. Wedi Gabru's experience comes from his acquaintance with many Oromo prisoners in Ma'kalawi and Karchallee prisons during the Derg era. Actually, Wedi Gabru's lover in Karchalle was a jailed wife of one Oromo liberation organization leader. They say she loved him so much and still dreams about him. As one Oromian prisoner recalls, many Oromo prisoners use to be so mad every time they see this Oromo women making up with Wedi Gabru inside the Meseret-Timhirt room where she and Wedi Gebru have taught Ha- Hu to those prisoners who can't read and write.After clearing his throat, Minase said to Wedi Gabru"... Man! You make intelligence work basically an art! I mean your ability to convince people, your ability to work with former Derg spies and party members is tremendous!" Minase continued... You know when I went to America and spoke to Nuguse Belayneh Zewude, I was so impressed with your ability to reach as far as America and smooth up men like Nuguse who once screamed " down with the TPLF" and convert him to the slogan of " long live the TPLF"!. But how do you do that man!.Well, Wedi Gabru smiled and then continued... You know people like to hear something that benefits them. With Nuguse's case for example, first, I knew he was not an Oromo but he claimed to be one because he wanted to hide his past criminal history of during the Derg ruling time where he might have tortured people or may be he may have tipped the intelligence community about his own brother and get him killed. Similarly, we know that there are tens of thousands criminals who joined different new organizations in order to avoid being question by us. So, if we know that is the fact we are dealing with, all we have to do is to offer these men an amnesty from their past crime and even give them another power. Compared to many others, Nuguse is very important to us for so many reasons. First, Nuguse understands how politics works he also has a training in the area of organization, intelligence and most importantly, Nuguse knows afaan Oromo, he knows how the Oromians think but he is an Amhara just like you. Obviously, these qualities make Nuguse a very important person and thus all I have to do is letting our branch in Washington work with him and even offer him president Girma's position.Now all what Nuguse has to do is to pray for a 90 year old Girma to go sooner than later. Haa! Haa a laughter.You know this remark of yours brings me to the reason why I am here this morning said Minase.Our prime minister has assigned me to coordinate to a task of creating a new team composed of Dr. Nagasaa, Dr. Gammachu, Dr. Asafa, Mr. Lata, Brihanu Dheressa, the Finfinnee mayor and some other people especially those from Ambo. So, I am here to ask your help to put together a short summary of OLF's inside info. Mostly, I am interested in what the Isayas government thinks about the OLF, the political development between Qinijit and the OLF.As you very well know, our ability to follow up with global political situation has helped us to adjust our strategy and fit ourselves in the situation even helped us to be recognized as a regional power of the horn of Africa sure enough this is the intelligence work not any thing else and I appreciate you recognizing this reality said Wedi Gabru.Coming back to the question you just asked me, there are so many opportunities available to us given the fact that there is a power struggle between Lenco and Dawud as it has happened between Galasa and Lenco. It is clear Lenco has been straight with us in his stand about the unity of our country. On the other hand, Dawud hates us and hence he is the one who signed an agreement with Qinjit. What that means is that there is a loophole inside the OLF that we can use to bring it under the leadership qualities of our beloved prime minister Meles Zenawi.If you have had a chance to read, Lenco Lata has written an article recognizing that prime minister Meles Zenawi is the model of Africanism and preeminent leader of the pioneering vanguard. Actually, let me show you Lenco Lata's article I printed out of the internet said Wedi Gabru and pulled out a five page paper and showed to Minase the under lined statement that said...."The emergence of well-read and articulate leaders like PM Meles Zenawi could hence herald the dawning of yet another more promising era in African history and is thus a cause for celebration".
